SUMMARY
Peace Over Violence is seeking a dynamic Youth Prevention & Engagement Specialist to support violence prevention and positive youth development programming throughout Los Angeles and the West San Gabriel Valley. The Youth Prevention & Engagement Specialist will provide prevention education, youth engagement, outreach, and community education designed to prevent dating violence, sexual violence, sexual harassment, stalking, bullying, and other forms of interpersonal and gender-based violence.
The Specialist will work primarily with youth and young adults while also engaging parents, caregivers, adult allies, educators, schools, and community partners who play an important role in creating safe and supportive environments for young people. Using Peace Over Violence's In Touch With Teens curriculum and other approved prevention and education curricula, the Specialist will facilitate interactive, trauma-informed and culturally responsive workshops and activities addressing healthy relationships, consent, communication, boundaries, healthy sexuality, gender norms, personal safety, violence prevention, and related topics.
The position will also support youth leadership activities, school and community outreach, parent/caregiver workshops, community presentations, special events, and other prevention and education activities. Assignments may shift across prevention education, youth development, outreach, parent/caregiver engagement, community education, and related activities based on program needs, community needs, funding requirements, and approved grant objectives.
Responsibilities
• Implement violence prevention and positive youth development programming for middle and high school students, youth, and young adults.
• Facilitate Peace Over Violence's In Touch With Teens and other approved prevention and education curricula.
• Provide interactive education on healthy relationships, dating violence, sexual violence, sexual harassment, bullying, gender stereotypes, boundaries and consent, personal safety, and empowerment.
• Plan and implement youth activities that promote consistent engagement, participation, leadership, healthy relationships, and connection to supportive adults and peers.
• Co-facilitate STOP (Students Together Organizing Peace), Youth Over Violence Institute activities, youth volunteer meetings, internships, summer programming, and other youth leadership activities.
• Provide prevention education and workshops for parents, caregivers, educators, adult allies, and community members.
• Participate in school and community outreach, resource fairs, tabling, presentations, special events, and other community engagement activities.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools, teachers, administrators, youth-serving organizations, community partners, and other agencies throughout assigned service areas.
• Support recruitment, participation, and ongoing engagement of youth in prevention and youth development activities.
• Work collaboratively with POV's Prevention team and other agency programs to expand prevention, education, youth engagement, and outreach efforts.
• Implement assigned activities under LA County Youth Development, Consolidated Youth, and other prevention or youth-focused projects in accordance with approved program objectives and grant requirements.
• Maintain accurate attendance, sign-in sheets, program activities, participant information, evaluations, outcomes, timesheets, and other required program and grant documentation.
• Respond appropriately to disclosures or requests for assistance and connect youth and community members to POV's confidential advocacy, counseling, case management, legal, crisis intervention, and other appropriate services.
• Participate in Prevention meetings, supervision, grant-specific meetings, staff meetings, trainings, and other agency activities as required.
Administrative/Other Duties
• Adhere to necessary grant requirements for statistical tracking and program evaluation
• Collect, record, and analyze agency services, data, and activity
• Attend in-services, staff meeting, annual agency functions, and other agency meetings, as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working with youth and young adults in school, community, prevention, or youth development settings.
• Experience planning and implementing youth activities that promote engagement, consistent participation, leadership, and relationship-building.
• Experience facilitating youth groups, workshops, presentations, and interactive activities.
• Knowledge of positive youth development, trauma-informed practices, healthy relationships, and violence prevention.
• Ability to build positive and appropriate relationships with youth, parents/caregivers, schools, and community partners.
• Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively and maintain required program and grant documentation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, and travel to assigned program sites.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Completion of required POV Violence Prevention Specialist and Counselor Advocate training, or equivalent approved training.
