SUMMARY
Peace Over Violence is a non-profit organization committed to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual domestic and interpersonal violence. Looking for a special person to join a dynamic team at a 50+ year old organization working to end interpersonal violence headquartered in Los Angeles. Ideal candidate is motivated by and interested in joining the violence prevention and social justice movement. The Temporary Communications & Program Assistant provides communications, administrative, and program support to Peace Over Violence. The position supports the agency's social media presence, newsletters, communications planning, special events, outreach activities & materials, and other program and administrative functions.
This is an on-site position scheduled for four days per week, eight hours per day. The employee must also be able to represent Peace Over Violence professionally at community events, outreach activities, meetings, and other agency functions as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Communications and Social Media
Monitor and manage Peace Over Violence social media platforms during scheduled work hours.
Assist with creating, scheduling, and posting approved social media content.
Maintain a social media and communications calendar.
Assist with the development and distribution of agency newsletters.
Assist with planning newsletter content and coordinating information from POV programs and departments.
Support communications planning for agency programs, campaigns, events, trainings, and community activities.
Develop basic graphics, announcements, program highlights, and awareness campaign materials.
Gather program information, photographs, event details, and other content for communications.
Assist with website content updates as assigned.
Organize photographs, outreach materials, communications files, and other digital content.
Route social media questions, messages, or inquiries to the appropriate POV staff member when necessary.
Program, Events and Outreach Support
Provide administrative and program support to designated POV programs and staff.
Support the planning and coordination of special events and community activities.
Represent Peace Over Violence at community events, resource fairs, outreach activities, and other approved functions.
Provide information about POV programs and services to community members and partner organizations.
Assist with community outreach and preparation of outreach materials.
Prepare program materials, outreach packets, presentations, sign-in materials, and supplies.
Assist with event logistics, registration, preparation, and follow-up.
Support communication and coordination with community partners as assigned.
Assist with scheduling, meeting preparation, correspondence, and follow-up activities.
Maintain program calendars, resource materials, communications records, and administrative files.
Assist with tracking program activities, outreach efforts, events, and assigned projects.
Assist with data entry and basic program documentation as assigned.
Perform other related communications, program, outreach, and administrative duties consistent with the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong interpersonal skills including ability to interact effectively and build successful relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
Experience in communications, social media, administrative support, community programs, nonprofits ervices, or a related area preferred.
Familiarity with major social media platforms.
Experience developing social media or digital content preferred.
Comfortable with public speaking and represent Peace Over Violence at community events and with partner organizations.
Ability to work on-site four days per week and attend assigned community events or agency activities.
Commitment to Peace Over Violence's mission and survivor-centered approach.
Strong skills in time management, organization, and strong attention to detail
Team player and willing to do what is needed to support projects & campaigns.
Exercise mature judgment and highly motivated and proactive; can work successfully independently.
Ability to multitask strong sense of prioritization and can coordinate multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work and thrive in a diverse group of people as a team member and agency representative.
Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge and/or interest in gender-based violence issues and social justice advocacy
Ability to relate in an empathetic, supportive, non-judgmental manner to victims and their families.
Demonstrate initiative and professionalism; ability to work independently & maintain workload.
Bilingual skills, written and spoken English/Spanish is a plus.
Temporary Position
This is a temporary, Full-time position scheduled for 32 hours per week (8 hours per day, 4 days per week) and is primarily on-site. The position may require participation in community events, outreach activities, or special events based on agency needs. The position is established based on current agency needs and available funding and does not guarantee continued or permanent employment. The duration of the assignment may be adjusted based on agency needs, available funding, and applicable employment requirements.
