Healing Through Song: A POV Collective Songwriting Workshop

  • Peace Over Violence - Metro Headquarters 1015 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 200 Los Angeles, CA, 90017 United States (map)

Bring your voice and creativity. Or your instrument!

--

Students of Grammy-award winning musician, Artivista, and Assistant Professor of Chicanx/Latinx Studies at Scripps College, MARTHA GONZALEZ will facilitate an interactive songwriting workshop for interested POV clients, staff and volunteers. No experience necessary; open to ages 18+

Dr. Gonzalez is an Advisory Board Member, long-time community organizer and "Artivista" - performing as a way to create community and to take a stand against social inequity.

A collective songwriting workshop is a process designed to facilitate meaningful discussions within a community. Through collective songwriting, Dr. Gonzalez’ students hope to discuss our work and experiences and collectively create song lyrics/poetry. Ultimately, the product of the songwriting workshop is not the most important piece of this special gathering. In this time together, we will experience a process of critically thinking about the issues that surround us, and take the information we gain to use in our future endeavors.

Date:                     December 1st, 4:30 - 6:30 PM
