Volunteer Outreach Orientation

Do you want to help survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Los Angeles & West San Gabriel Valley area? Would you like to educate community members about the effects of domestic and sexual violence? Do you like to engage in critical conversations with the community to build knowledge on social justice issues?

Peace Over Violence invites you to come learn about volunteer opportunities in our 24-hour rape and battering hotline and emergency response programs, violence prevention specialist program, and our speakers bureau, Voice Over Violence. During National Volunteer Week (4/7/2019 - 4/13/2019), we will be hosting a Volunteer Outreach Orientation for the community at our Metro Headquarter Office. We will share information on all our Volunteer Programs and we will have current Volunteers share their experiences.

Peace Over Violence encourages caring and compassionate individuals from the diverse communities of Los Angeles County to become trauma-informed volunteers working directly with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, community members, and our professional partners.

 

BENEFITS

  • Become a trauma informed counselor advocate

  • Provide direct services to survivors via our 24-hour hotline or respond in person

  • Help strengthen community partner relationships

  • Enhanced knowledge on Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Child Sexual Abuse, Intimate Partner Stalking, and other topics relating to violence

  • Become a representative of a nationally recognized organization

  • Develop skills on community education presentation and tabling events

  • Learn about social justice issues and engage with community members to build social awareness and educate them in these areas

  • Give back to communities impacted by violence

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Participate in all training sessions, per your volunteer training program

  • Commitment to one full year of service

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance

  • Must live in LA County. Prefer community members from Metro LA or West San Gabriel Valley

No previous experience is required. Please note: All volunteers through the emergency response volunteer programs will be subject to an LAPD or POV criminal background check.
