Men of Strength (MOST)

Peace Over Violence is participating in a statewide campaign designed to empower young men to take a stand against sexual assault, gender discrimination, and violence. The unique goal of the “My Strength” campaign and “MOST” Clubs is to educate young men about the critical role they play in preventing violence against women, and empowering them with tools to have healthier relationships. It helps the young men to take control of their lives and become positive role models for their peers, siblings and communities. This is done without “blaming” men; rather the focus is on the positive aspects of strength and masculinity. This innovative campaign centers around the theme, “My strength is not for hurting.” Working with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA), the California Department of Health Services, and 66 other rape crisis centers, Peace Over Violence is taking action as a flagship center to implement the “My Strength” campaign in the greater Los Angeles area. In conjunction with this statewide movement Peace Over Violence is partnering with Marshall High School in Los Angeles by creating a “MOST” Program (Men of Strength Club). This program is unique in that it encourages young men to define for themselves what it means to be a “strong man,” by challenging them to critically analyze societal and media images that tend to depict “true manhood” and violence as being synonymous.
