Counseling Methods

Healing and Empowerment Through Art and Imagery

Art and visualization are powerful means to open up doors to a survivor’s emotions, thoughts, and self-concepts that are not as readily accessible through words. The use of art and guided imagery within counseling or groups help the healing process and complements the traditional methods of talk therapy.

Individual Counseling

Individual crisis counseling can decrease the longer term impact of trauma. Peace Over Violence offers 10 weeks of free crisis counseling. In addition, we may provide referrals for long-term counseling or may provide additional counseling based upon availability.

Support Groups

Support groups can be very important in a person’s healing. They provide a safe place to connect with other survivors who share similar experiences. This can decrease feelings of isolation, shame and being alone. Trained, empathetic counselors co-facilitate the groups in a safe, supportive setting. Support groups require an initial intake and are offered on a sliding scale. Peace Over Violence offers sexual assault and domestic violence groups in English, Spanish, and ASL.
