The Domestic Abuse Response Team is a multi-disciplinary team, in which a law enforcement officer is paired with a highly trained advocate from Peace Over Violence. Peace Over Violence partners with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division to have a specialized unit: Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) which handles and responds to domestic violence calls in the Northeast area of Los Angeles. This is a system-based model that joins the efforts of criminal justice, social service and community based agencies.
The team consists of two police officers in uniform and a counselor advocate who have extensive knowledge on issues of domestic violence. The officers will respond to domestic violence/domestic dispute calls in the Northeast area of Los Angeles and assure safety of the victim and their family, begin their preliminary investigation, make an arrest when appropriate, and provide emergency protective orders if needed. The counselor/advocate will then provide crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy, information about their rights and options, assistance with restraining order paperwork, referrals to shelters and resource information to survivors.
